Twilight

twilightTwilight, the first book in the Twilight series, was written by Stephenie Meyer. Stephenie Meyer created this book from middle to end and then back again based on a dream that she had about vampires. According to her appearance on Oprah, Stephenie saw a vampire shimmering in the meadow, and there was a girl with him. When she woke up, she wanted to see what happened to the couple, so she sat down at her computer and began writing. She wrote the first book from the middle to the end and then went on to write from the beginning to the middle.

The first book in the Twilight series spent 11 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list and sold 70 million copies. The Twilight movie went on to gross over $380 million at the box office.

After moving to the town of Forks, Washington to live with her dad, Charlie, Bella Swan meets Jacob, a member of the Quileute Tribe. Jacob tells Bella the history of the tribe and how the stories tell of the members turning into werewolves to chase after “the cold ones,” or vampires. Bella then encounters Edward Cullen, who to Bella is strange and beautiful. The story develops interesting twists and turns of love and friendship between Bella and Edward.

There are not many differences between the book and the movie. The biggest difference between the two is that in the book, Twilight, there is stronger relationship-building between Bella and Edward depicted. In the movie, since there is not much time and a lot to fit in, the relationship-building happens much faster. The other difference is that the story of how Alice became a vampire is told in much detail in the book, whereas in the movie, it is just glossed over briefly.

When the Twilight movie was cast, Stephenie saw Robert Pattinson in some photos and felt that he would be right for the part of Edward Cullen because of his very unique look. Kristen Stewart had already been cast as Bella Swan. When Stephenie and the director, Catherine Hardwick, saw the two together, they knew that they had made the right choice. Taylor Lautner was cast to play Jacobe. Peter Facinelli was chosen to play Edward Cullen’s father. Cast in the role of clairvoyant vampire Alice Cullen was Ashley Greene. Nikki Reed played Rosalie Cullen, and Jackson Rathbone was cast to play Jasper Cullen. Kellan Lutz was cast to play Emmit.

The first Twilight movie was shot in Vancouver, Canada. To get some of the picturesque scenes, directors had to get creative with their sets. Since the vampires shimmered in the sun, they had to create a way to make it look hazy, which meant shooting in a box-like set. They also used a golf course to set up the meadow scene.
